FAQ

QCan you accommodate allergies or dietary preferences?

APlease let us know in advance and we will do our best to accommodate them.

QHow many parties can stay per day?

ANé welcomes just one party a day — 2 to 4 guests, in complete privacy.

QCan I dine without staying?

AYes — dining-only visits are welcome (counter seating for up to 6). From ¥42,350 per guest, tax and service included.

QWhat awards has Né received?

AIn June 2026, Né was named Popular Choice Winner of the Architizer A+Awards 2026 in the Architecture + Environment category — a category prize decided by public vote from more than 80 countries.

QWhat is Chef Fuse’s background?

AChef Makoto Fuse served as chef de partie under Antoine Westermann in France, then as head chef in Tokyo, before moving to Shibata in 2025.

QHow many guests can stay?

AStays are for one group a day, 2–4 guests. Dining-only visits are welcome for up to 6.

QCan we bring children?

AFor stays, children aged 0–12 are free when sharing a bed with parents (no extra bedding or meals; not counted toward capacity). For dining-only visits, children cannot join as a rule, as no children’s menu is offered — for the Exclusive Plan (full buyout), please enquire in advance. Please note we have no dedicated facilities for infants.

QIs there a transfer?

AFor staying guests only: complimentary pick-up from Shibata Station, Niigata Station or Niigata Airport (advance notice required).

QWhat is an auberge? How is it different from a ryokan or a hotel?

ANé is a one-group-per-day auberge. An auberge is an inn built around its cuisine, where the meal and the overnight stay are offered as a single, continuous experience. Unlike a ryokan or hotel that works at scale — large baths, many rooms — Né welcomes only one group each day, so that the cuisine, the architecture and the time held in this land can be experienced quietly, as one composition.

QCan we stay for an anniversary or a celebration?

AYes. We are glad to host stays marking an anniversary or a celebration; please let us know when you book, and we will prepare what we can within the course of the evening.

QHow should we plan access in winter, or on snowy days?

AIn winter the roads may freeze or be covered in snow. If you drive, please come with winter tyres (or chains). We are about 15 minutes from the Seirō-Shibata IC on the Nihonkai-Tōhoku Expressway. For staying guests we also offer a complimentary shuttle from Shibata Station, Niigata Station and Niigata Airport (advance notice required), which many guests find reassuring in the snow season.

QHow should we spend our time during the stay? (Do we need to go sightseeing?)

AA night at Né is designed to be complete in itself. It is not a base from which to rush between sights, but a place to experience the time of this land. From arrival to departure the next morning, spend the hours slowly — in the cuisine, the architecture, the barrel sauna, and the quiet of snow country. Without going anywhere, what this land has to offer is already here.

QIs parking available?

AYes, parking is available on site; you may park directly on arrival. In winter, please come with winter equipment.

QIs there a dress code?

AThere is no strict dress code — please be comfortable. Ours is a place that values a quiet evening, so we simply ask that you come dressed in a way that lets you relax.

QHow do reservations and payment work?

AReservations for a stay are made through our official booking site (CHILLNN), and dining-only reservations through TableCheck. Both are by advance payment only; there is no payment on site.

QIs the barrel sauna “sui” included in the room rate?

AYes. The barrel sauna “sui,” on the same grounds, is complimentary for staying guests. Please enjoy it as part of your stay.

QIs the sauna private?

AYes. The barrel sauna “sui” is exclusively for staying guests and used by reservation. Let us know your preferred time, and we will set it aside as your own private slot.

QWhat is the sauna like?

AA wood-fired barrel sauna reaching about 110°C, cooled with soft well water at around 15°C, set among the trees of the 3,200-tsubo grounds, with a timber deck you can walk barefoot.

QCan you accommodate food allergies or ingredients we cannot eat?

AYes. If you have allergies or ingredients you cannot eat, please tell us as specifically as you can when you book (the ingredient, the severity, the number of guests). We will accommodate them where possible. As this is a set course, requests made at the last minute may not always be possible.

QWhat is included in the room rate?

AOne night with two meals (the dinner course and breakfast), the room, the barrel sauna “sui” on the same grounds, the complimentary shuttle (for staying guests, advance notice required), in-house beverages, and a full set of amenities.
